Frequently Asked Questions
- What does it mean to be a Power Learner?
- We have all developed ways of dealing with information presented
to us in various ways in various situations in order to learn words,
math concepts, spatial relationships and so on. However, we’ve all found
ourselves unable to grasp something we’ve heard, read, or watched.
This does not reflect our motivation or our effort, and it certainly
does not reflect our intelligence. It simply means we have been presented
with information in a style or mode other than our preferred style, the
one that works best for us.
- There is no right or wrong style or mode of learning, just different
styles and combinations of styles (multimodal). Knowing your preferred
learning style creates an awareness of what works best for you. This
awareness empowers you to recognize situations when you need to create
alternative modes for dealing with information and enables you to master
learning all types of information.
- Becoming a Power Learner will help you maximize every learning
opportunity you encounter throughout your lifetime. Power Learning is
about transforming your existing learning process into one that is
highly tuned for you as an individual.
- What are learning styles?
- Learning styles are different ways to receive and process information
in order to learn it. The three primary learning styles are visual,
auditory and kinesthetic. People with a visual preference learn best
when they see information. Those with an auditory preference learn best
by hearing. Individuals who learn best by actually doing something with
the information have a kinesthetic preference.
- Who can use information about learning styles?
- Almost everyone! Anyone who can express how they best receive and
process information so their learning style can be identified can use
the information. We all learn every day. Knowing how we learn best is
valuable to every one of us.
- How do I find out my preferred learning style?
- The My Power Learning Assessment will ask you a series of questions.
Your answers will be processed and the result will be a Personal Learning
Index. Your Personal Learning Index will tell you which learning style you
prefer.
- How does my learning style affect me?
- We all receive lots of information on a daily basis from many sources
about many topics. The way the information is presented to you may or may
not be the best way for you in order for you to learn it. If you know your
preferred learning style, you can use that knowledge to make the most of
every chance you have to learn something new.
- How does My Power Learning work?
- First, you’ll be asked a series of questions (the MPL Assessment).
They’re fun to read and easy to answer. Your answers will be processed
within a minute or so. You will then be able to review your Personal
Learning Index.
- What will I learn from the MPL Assessment Personal Learning Index?
- Your Personal Learning Index will show you which learning style(s)
you prefer – the best ways for you to receive information to make learning
easiest for you. It will also show you the styles that are not your
strongest preferences.
